What the postcode covers

SW1X is Belgravia and the eastern half of Knightsbridge, stucco squares and the grand hotels along the park. SW1W runs south from Eaton Square through Victoria towards Pimlico. SW1A is official London: St James's, Whitehall, the palace and the streets around Parliament. SW1E and SW1P fill in Victoria proper and Westminster below it.

Those divisions matter less here than the fact that the whole postcode is crossed by car in about fifteen minutes at a civil hour, and that no part of the crossing costs anything on top of the figure.

If your address begins SW1, the district pages are the better read: the Belgravia squares, the Knightsbridge park strip and the small hotels of Sloane Square each carry their own hotels, stations and walking minutes.

The grandest rooms sit along the park. SW1X 7RL on Wilton Place, SW1X 7LA facing the trees, and SW1X 7TA on the Hyde Park Corner kerb. SW1X 7HJ faces the Wellington Arch, and SW1W 0JW keeps its own garden behind Beeston Place.

Not one of those five has any standing with this house. Your companion arrives as your guest, which is what she is. The postcode holds a great deal of residential SW1 besides: mansion flats behind porters, houses on the squares, company apartments around Westminster. Stations, minutes and three who live here

Victoria, with three Tube lines and the main line concourse, is about 5 minutes on foot from the middle of the postcode. Hyde Park Corner, on the Piccadilly line, is roughly 6 minutes from the northern edge. St James's Park is some 6 minutes from Westminster on the Circle and District lines, and Sloane Square about 8 minutes from the western squares.

Is Westminster or Pimlico priced differently from Belgravia?

No. Every address inside the two central fare zones carries the same tariff, £250 for an hour and £500 for two, and her journey across the postcode is already inside it. Only an address beyond Zone 2 adds a fare, quoted in advance as one sum.

How quickly can somebody reach a Victoria hotel late in the evening?

Usually well inside the hour, since several companions live in or beside this postcode. If you would rather name a later time, name it, and that is when she rings.

Can a booking here begin at a restaurant rather than at the room?

Certainly. Give Delphine the room and the hour it is held for and your companion meets you at the table. Across most of SW1 the walk back afterwards is short, and where it is not, the car is inside the figure already.
