When the arrangement is measured in days
Past a single night the ladder stops being useful. Two days is not two overnights and a week is certainly not seven, because the hours in the middle are not the same hours and nobody should be counting them. An extended arrangement is quoted as one sum, written down once, and it does not move afterwards.
Delphine puts together a handful of these a year and they are among the better bookings this house takes. They also want the most notice of anything on this site.

What counts as extended
Anything from two consecutive days upward, here in London or elsewhere. A long weekend at a house in the country. A fortnight where you are working through the days and want the evenings to be good ones. A month in town while a flat is being finished. The shapes vary more here than on any other page of this site, and no two have ever been quoted the same way.

How a long weekend actually runs
Take the commonest shape, three days in town. She arrives on the Friday in time for dinner, and the first night is treated as a good evening rather than the start of something large. Saturday morning is hers, since a long arrangement needs gaps, and the two of you meet again for lunch and an afternoon at a gallery or on foot through the parks. Saturday night is the long dinner. Sunday is slow: a late breakfast, a walk, and her departure at the hour agreed, which is written down at the outset so that nobody spends the last day wondering about it.

How Delphine quotes it
She wants the dates, the place, and an honest account of how much of the days you expect her to be present for. Somebody at a desk until seven every evening is a different arrangement from somebody who is not, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. One sum comes back covering the whole of it. It is not the hourly ladder with something taken off the end.

Where in London these are based
When the days are spent in town, they are most often based at a lateral flat in Knightsbridge or Belgravia, or a suite on Park Lane taken for the week. Staying inside the circle's own streets helps more than people expect: she knows the rooms, the walks and the quiet hour at each, and she can go home for her morning to herself without crossing town.

The days, and the gaps inside them
She will want hours of her own inside a long arrangement: a morning to herself, an afternoon she does not have to be good company for. Any woman who tells you she needs none is not being truthful and will be poor company by the fourth day. Build them in and the whole thing works considerably better.

What else Delphine should know
Anything already fixed in the diary: a dinner at which she will meet other people, a day at the races, an evening at the opera. Whether she stays at your address throughout or goes home each night, since some of the circle prefer one and some the other. And what the clothes need to cover, because a week that includes black tie and a country walk calls for a different case from one that does not.

Who suits a long arrangement
The ones comfortable in their own quiet. Lucy is easy to be silent with and can spend an hour in front of one painting. Sonya is the calmest company here and has been unhurried for years. Liana does not check the time and never has. Vanessa is at ease wherever she is put down. Their usual ground runs from Knightsbridge across to SW1, and their pages are in the Salon.

Terms across a longer arrangement
The sum goes into her hand on the first day, as it does at every other appointment this house arranges. What it buys is her time and her company for those days, on precisely the same plain terms as an hour at £250, and nothing further is offered at any length.
If the dates move, tell Delphine as early as you can and she will be as flexible as the diary lets her be.

Does she stay throughout, or go home at night?
Either, agreed in advance. Some of the circle prefer to sleep at home and return in the morning, which also gives both of you the gaps a long arrangement needs; others would rather stay put. Delphine proposes somebody whose preference matches yours.
How much notice is needed?
A week for a long weekend in London, and a fortnight or more for anything longer or further away. The good arrangements are rarely put together in a hurry.
What if the arrangement needs to end early?
Say so to her and to Delphine. An arrangement can always be shortened, and Delphine will tell you plainly at the time what, if anything, is affected. Nobody is held to days that no longer suit them.
Is there a longest arrangement?
Not in principle. A month has been arranged before, with a pause in the middle of it, and the longer the arrangement runs, the more the gaps inside it matter.
