Four blondes, and not one of them wears it the same way
Blonde is the smallest of the colouring presentations here and the most varied inside itself. Four women, four quite different temperatures of it, and no two who would be mistaken for one another across a room.
Each entry gives the colour as she actually wears it, the eyes that go with it, and the evening she would choose if the choosing were hers.

Cindy: loose waves, and one colour at a time
Cindy is 26 and slim at 168 cm, the blonde left in its own loose waves, the eyes a pale clear blue. She dresses in a single colour from head to foot and has never owned a handbag large enough to hide behind. Her evening is a window table on Sloane Square at the later sitting, from half past eight, and two coffees long after the plates have gone. She is cool for the first ten minutes and very funny after them, and she is the one of the four to choose if you would rather talk about books than about work.

Nancy: golden, blue eyed, never once in a hurry
Nancy is 30 and curvy at 170 cm, the blonde full and golden, the eyes blue, the delivery calm and deliberate. She likes a dramatic room that is loud enough to talk in and a corner table she can ask for again next time. Afterwards it is a circuit of the gardens on Berkeley Square under the plane trees. She treats three hours as the shortest length worth having, and she is the natural choice for a guest who wants to talk about theatre, or about how a good room is run.

Nora: honey blonde, and nothing wasted
Nora is 26 and athletic at 166 cm, the honey worn long, the hazel eyes changing with whatever light a room has. Her English is economical and none of it is filler. She takes a long dinner on Park Lane, at the windows facing Hyde Park, orders simply, finishes what she orders, and crosses into the trees afterwards if the gates are still open. She starts at seven and finishes earlier than the other three, which makes her the one to ask for before an early flight or an early meeting.

Thea: caramel, green eyed, a small room
Thea is 29 and curvy at 165 cm, the blonde a warm caramel and the eyes green. She turns a conversation gently and notices a great deal more than she says. Her choice is a mews dining room a minute from Berkeley Square, with low ceilings and a short menu, then the square itself on the way home. She is the gentlest of the four and the first to notice when a subject has run its course, and her evenings usually last three hours or longer.

Two blondes on the same square
Nancy and Thea both keep their evenings around Berkeley Square and could hardly use it more differently. Nancy takes the loud, dramatic room on the north side and a corner she asks for by habit; Thea takes the small room in the mews and the same two courses every time. If the square is settled and the evening is not, that is the question to decide first: a room worth looking at, or a room worth hiding in.
