Black hair worn long, and six very different women under it
Six women in the circle have black hair rather than a brown that merely passes for it in a dark room, and every one of the six wears it long. Five wear it straight as well, a choice each of them made quite separately from the others.
Past the colour there is very little linking them, which is precisely why they are set out one at a time below rather than as a list of names.

Angelika: athletic at 172 cm, straight past the shoulders
Angelika is 24, built on the clean line of a woman who swims before the city is properly awake, the black hair straight and unbroken. Brown eyes, considered rather than searching. She keeps her evenings inside Mayfair and walks home through the gardens whenever the weather allows it.

Danielle: 170 cm, curvy, poker straight
Danielle is 29, straight backed and unhurried, the black hair long and without a bend anywhere in it. She is the driest woman in the circle and will talk about a ceiling for an hour if you let her. Her evening is a high room on Piccadilly with Green Park directly opposite for afterwards, and she likes the diary settled two days ahead.

Karolina: 174 cm, slim, no wave in it at all
Karolina is 27 and long limbed, the black hair straight, the brown eyes attentive rather than appraising whatever people assume in the first minute. An auction viewing on Bond Street is her preferred way into an evening, which means a six o'clock start when something is on, and she will defend a favourite properly over dinner afterwards.

Milena: 175 cm, curvy, worn to the waist
Milena is 25 and stands very still, the black hair straight to the waist, the effect on a busy room being that it settles slightly around her. Her conversation is the opposite of her appearance: talkative, opinionated, and with no small talk in it anywhere. She takes one evening a night, at a window table on Sloane Square from eight, and would much rather it ran past midnight.

Roxi: 168 cm, curvy, worn loose
Roxi is 23, the black hair loose rather than dressed, the gaze level and the English economical. One properly made drink in a small panelled room, taken slowly and never followed by a second, then the walk up into Green Park where the paths are lit.

Violetta: 178 cm, sleek and straight
Violetta is 30 and the tallest woman here, the black hair sleek and straight, the delivery composed and formal. Her room is an open grill in Belgravia, at a table with a view of the fire, where she eats considerably more than her frame suggests. She needs assistance from nobody in any room she walks into, and she prefers her evenings arranged well in advance.

Height and build under the one colour
The six run from Roxi at 168 cm to Violetta at 178, and the colour sits on quite different frames. Angelika is athletic, Karolina slim and Violetta tall and slender, while Danielle, Milena and Roxi are all curvy. Every one of them has brown eyes, which with black hair gives the six a family likeness in photographs that disappears the moment any of them speaks.

Which of the six for which evening
Angelika for an early table, seated by half past seven, and the walk home through the squares. Danielle for a long dinner under high ceilings with somebody who wants to talk about buildings. Karolina for a viewing first and an argument about it afterwards. Milena for a late night with no small talk in it. Roxi for one very good drink rather than a meal. Violetta for a formal room and a manner that warms considerably after the first hour.
