About Samanta
Samanta dresses the way other people build: from a plan, with nothing left to chance. She is 174 cm and slim, with long dark brown hair worn simply and brown eyes that take in a room in one pass. Her clothes are structured and almost always in a single dark colour, cut narrow, with one strong shape and no decoration at all. She is the most deliberately put together woman on this roster and the least fussy about it.
Her manner is cool, exact and much funnier than it first appears. Her English arrives in short, complete sentences with long pauses between them. Design is what she cares about, particularly interiors, and she has strong views about rooms that try too hard. She is a patient listener and an unsparing editor of her own opinions, which she will revise out loud if you give her a reason to.
Mayfair is home and Sketch on Conduit Street is the room she takes an evening to, partly because it is the one place in London she cannot decide about. She has argued both sides of it for years. She orders carefully and eats slowly and spends half the evening looking at the walls. Afterwards she walks down Conduit Street and into Savile Row, where the windows are lit and the tailoring is the sort she can talk about for an hour.
The remainder of her W1 evenings belongs to the Mayfair page, and the lengths are collected under rates. One message to booking, the date named, is all Delphine requires.

Arranging her evening
Samanta prefers an evening arranged a day or two ahead and will not take two in one night. Delphine needs the date, the hour and the address, and she confirms once.
Her figures are the house figures, set out in full on the rates page, and the whole arrangement runs in one written exchange from the first line to the confirmation.

An evening with Samanta
She will look at the room for a full minute before she looks at you, and she will apologise for it afterwards. Samanta cannot help reading a space: what was done well, what was done expensively instead of well, and which chair in the room is the only honest object in it. It is an unusual opening and it works.
Dinner is slow and the conversation is better than the pace suggests. She asks little and answers fully, and when she is enjoying herself the pauses get shorter. Afterwards Savile Row at eleven is her preference, lit windows and no people, and she will talk you through three of them properly. Where the evening goes next is your decision, put once and without any weight behind it.
Before you write
Samanta, in her own words
Do you like that room or not?
I have never decided, which is why I keep going back. A room you can argue about for ten years is doing something right.
What ruins an interior?
Trying to be liked. The moment a room asks for a compliment it has stopped working. A quiet table is the same fault in reverse. I leave it alone and it recovers.
Why Savile Row at night?
Because the windows are lit and the street is empty, and you can look properly without anybody opening a door for you.

Remarks
What guests have written
Nothing is written here for Samanta yet, which in a house this size is usually what discretion looks like. A remark is put up after a guest has offered one, she has agreed to it in writing, and Delphine has satisfied herself that it carries a first name, a month and no private detail of any kind.
